KC Streetcar Constructors is about to hit a major milestone: connecting the existing downtown streetcar system to the Main Street Extension!

The terms listed are a few of the equipment, materials, and techniques the KC Streetcar Constructors and our subcontractors are using to build the KC Streetcar Main Street Extension.

Concrete crews will transition to early morning work shifts starting Wednesday, July 17 at 4 a.m. for the next 1-2 weeks to accommodate rising temperatures and keep crews safe from excessive heat.

Crews will work in the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 3, to minimize impacts to the traveling public.

Streetcar shelters are being installed along the Main Street Extension, brining us one step closer to #Ridein2025!

Beginning Thursday, June 13, 2024, KC Streetcar Constructors will be working on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at Brookside Boulevard which will require a temporary closure of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard east of Brookside Boulevard . This work is anticipated to take 4-5 weeks to complete, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.

Crews will work in the early morning hours of Friday, May 31 to minimize impacts to the traveling public.

KC Streetcar Constructors will move rail into the work zone on the west side of the intersection of Main Street and 39th Street on Monday, May 13. Crews will work in the early morning hours to minimize impacts to the travelling public.

The installation of the arms and wires on the Overhead Catenary System poles on the Main Street Extension are underway! These wires power the KC Streetcar, getting electricity from the five new traction power substations (TPSS) located along the extension.

Crews will work in the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 30, to minimize impacts to the traveling public.

KC Streetcar Constructors to move rail Tuesday, April 9, from the rail storage area near 49th Street and Brookside Boulevard to the work zone on the east side of Brookside Boulevard near Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard.

Crews will work in the early morning hours to limit impacts to the traveling public.

Beginning, Wednesday, April 10, 2024, KC Streetcar Constructors will be working on Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard at Brookside Boulevard which will require a temporary closure of East Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard. This work is anticipated to take four weeks to complete, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.

Starting Wednesday, April 3, crews will work overnight on a portion of 31st Street to perform underground electrical work.

31st Street will remain open during this work with reduced lanes for eastbound and westbound traffic.

KC Streetcar Constructors to move rail Tuesday, March 19, from the rail storage area near 49th Street and Brookside Boulevard to the work zone on the east side of Brookside Boulevard near Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard.

KC Streetcar Constructors will move rail in the early morning hours of Monday, March 11 for track construction.

The first full week of March is Women in Construction Week, a week to appreciate of the women who have made strides in the construction industry, an industry where women account for just 10.9% of the workforce. Crews will work in the early morning hours of Friday, February 23, to minimize impacts to the traveling public.

On Tuesday, February 19, KCSC crews will begin installing the Pershing Crossover at the Main Street and Pershing Road intersection. This work will happen in multiple phases to allow traffic to flow at the intersection, starting in mid-February and lasting through Summer 2024, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.
