Traffic Impacts to 39th Street

KC Streetcar Constructors will continue building track through the Main Street and 39th Street intersection. The first phase of work was completed in November 2023 when crews built track and pedestrian upgrades on the east side of Main Street through the 39th Street intersection.

The second phase will begin on Friday, May 10 and will include a closure of the west side of Main Street at 39th Street.

Phase 2

Beginning Friday, May 10, KC Streetcar Constructors will close a portion of 39th Street west of Main street for track construction. This work is anticipated to be complete in 3 weeks, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.

 

Phase 2: Impacts to Traffic

A portion of 39th Street west of Main Street will close for track construction. The traveling public and delivery trucks can use the following detours:

  • Eastbound traffic: Broadway Boulevard / Armour Boulevard / Gillham Road

  • Westbound traffic: Gillham Road / Armour Boulevard / Main Street

Northbound and southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction and will be pushed to the east side of Main Street. Businesses will remain open and accessible during this work.

Phase 2: Impacts to Pedestrians

The crosswalk at the south and west side of the intersection of Main Street and 39th Street will be temporarily closed during this work. Pedestrians should use the crosswalks on the north and east side of 39th Street and east side Main Street of the intersection to cross.

Phase 1 (COMPLETE)

Beginning Friday, November 3, KC Streetcar Constructors will close a portion of 39th Street east of Main Street for track construction. This work is anticipated to be complete by the end of November, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.

A portion of 39th Street east of Main Street will close for track construction. The vehicluar traffic and delivery trucks can use the following detours:

  • Eastbound traffic: Broadway Boulevard / Linwood Boulevard / Gillham Road

  • Westbound traffic: Gillham Road / Linwood Boulevard / Main Street

Northbound and southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction and will be pushed to the west side of Main Street. Businesses will remain open and accessible during this work. Please see the detour map to the right.

Phase 1: Impacts to Pedestrians

The crosswalk at the east side of the intersection of Main Street and 39th Street will be temporarily closed during this work. Pedestrians should use the crosswalks on the south side of 39th Street and west side Main Street of the intersection to cross.

Please note: There will be periods when the crosswalk will temporarily close or be relocated for work. The crosswalk will reopen when safe.
