KC Streetcar Constructors Recognizes 2023 Safety Week
Safety is a 24-7 job on the KC Streetcar Main Street Extension project. But we elevate this message and the 2023 theme, Strong voice, safe choices during National Construction Safety Week from May 1-5, 2023. National Construction Safety Week increases awareness of safety on construction sites and KC Streetcar Constructors (KCSC) takes safety-related topics very seriously.
There are four objectives for Safety Week this year:
Empowerment: It’s important that team members are empowered to “see something, say something” when it comes to safety.
Recognition: It’s not always easy to see all hazards – it's important to work as a team to help recognize hazards to best assess and take charge of a situation.
Partnership: Working together to keep an eye on area surroundings and active work is key to prevent distractions that may arise.
Impact: Team members working on sites care about the communities they are in. It’s important to make a positive impact as individuals, teams and as an industry.
Crews are pouring concrete for the newly installed track on Main Street near Vietnam Veterans Memorial Drive.
Did you know that every person working on the KC Streetcar Main Street Extension must attend a safety orientation before being allowed in the project’s construction zones? To date, over 1,200 team members have attended a safety orientation! The KCSC team supports and maintains a safe work environment not only for the hard-working people on the corridor, but also for residents, business owners, pedestrians, visitors and drivers. KCSC ensures everyone on the job site is well trained and aware of the safety protocols put in place.
In addition to multiple safety protocols, daily checks, and daily safety moments, the KC Streetcar Constructors are excited to take part in National Construction Safety Week by hosting “All Hands Safety Meetings” each morning to review and highlight key topics related to safety. We ask that you always be alert and safe when traveling through construction areas. To participate in National Construction Safety Week, please pay extra attention and drive safely in work zones. It is vital that everyone working on the project and the general public return home safely every single day. Safety is a team effort.
